Living in Magnolia Neighborhood – Seattle, WA

Living In Magnolia – Seattle, WA

Living in Magnolia is a great choice for those who want to be close to downtown Seattle, experience the safety and prestige of a famously popular and luxury neighborhood with water views, and access Discovery Park for great outdoor experiences year-round. In the vibrant Magnolia neighborhood, residents not only enjoy proximity to downtown Seattle and breathtaking water views but also benefit from a close-knit community atmosphere and convenient access to top-rated schools, trendy shops, and cozy cafes, making it an ideal place to call home for families and professionals alike.

The Magnolia Bluff is just north of Seattle/Queen Anne and along the Puget Sound.  There’s a huge, beautiful public park here with a beach, called Discovery Park and you could go running in there for an hour and just make a big loop, they have trails that go down to the beach up through fields, prior military housing, forests and along the bluff looking out to sea and across to Seattle.  Housing in this area is pricy due to great views and close access to downtown.

Real Stories of Living In Magnolia – Seattle, WA

The Small Family: My good friend from high school decided to become an attorney in downtown Seattle. She and her husband only had one child and they decided to buy a home in Magnolia. She loves it – she can jog to downtown Seattle along the Magnolia bluff. She can jog through discovery park. (Yes, she did run in the Boston Marathon… so she may be a more ambitious runner than most.). And she and her family can walk to nearby pubs and restaurants with their young daughter. It was an older home with an unfinished basement – small upstairs, but they made it their own.

The Large Family: I have another client who decided to move to Magnolia as well. They had two kids and a golden retriever and bought a 2-story house that would have room downstairs for their parents to visit, as well, once they finished out the basement. They also bought an older home from an older couple, and it turned out to need a little more TLC than first realized, but they have been very happy with it. They were renting in the area before, and very pleased with the choice of location.

The Magnolia Vibe

Magnolia has a bit of an “old money” vibe, and many people who live here have lived here seemingly forever. It’s one of those places that is enough of a pinnacle to have reached, that once you get there, you don’t want to leave.

Two great things about Magnolia are the bluff – which overlooks Puget Sound and downtown Seattle. Some of these views are available from roads or public parks, and some must be appreciated from some very expensive real estate. However, this can be a mixed blessing, as with many steep slopes along the sea… erosion is a potential problem for some living here.

The second great thing about living in Magnolia is Discovery Park – which is a huge in-city park offering many different landscapes – from views from the bluff, a sandy beach with a lighthouse, old-timey military housing (still inhabited) grassy lawns, fields with waist-high grass and wildflowers, and trees and forests. If you like blackberry picking there are some options here as well.

I love taking out-of-towners to Discovery Park. The last time we were here, we got some great pictures of the Olympic Mountains along hour mutli-hour hike.
