If you have been wondering the best way to choose a realtor to help you buy or sell a home, you might ask yourself: Does your real estate agent really matter? Or are they all kind of the same?
As with any service-based business, much of what realtors do seems similar when observed from the outside. However, real estate agents differ, not only in personality but in skills. How can your real estate agent differentiate themselves?
Buyers:
Are they willing to look for off-market properties? Will they coach you through the paperwork so you understand what you’re signing? Will they help you stay safe even when making competitive offers? Will your agent advise you on how to be aggressive so your offers get accepted? Does your agent call the listing agent and try to work the deal behind the scenes?
Sellers:
Besides the sign in the yard and MLS listing, what is happening? Professional photos – yes in most cases (but not all?) What about staging, do they pay for that? Does your agent invest in online marketing material like 3D Matterport property tours? Video tours? Neighborhood profile videos? Will you have an Open House? Will it be crowded? Does your agent negotiate with buyers to help improve their offers? What pricing strategy do they use? Do they invest in marketing so your home is seen by the masses and not just those people who happen upon it on the MLS?
These are great questions to ask when interviewing a realtor.
Who you work with matters and it needs to be a good fit, not just personality-wise, but also skills-wise.
